Meet Nicole Connell of Mere Health

Meet Nicole:

Nicole Connell is the founder of Mère Health, a virtual care clinic for moms. The idea came from her own experience navigating miscarriage and postpartum depression without the support she needed. She created Mère to make maternal care more accessible, collaborative, and human.

Tell us about Mère—and what’s the “why” behind the brand?
    • The idea for Mère came from my own experience walking through miscarriage, prenatal, and postpartum depression, and feeling completely lost trying to find help. I was shocked by the lack of collaboration and accessibility in maternal care, especially during some of the most vulnerable chapters of a woman’s life. So I created what I so desperately needed. One virtual space where women can access a trusted, qualified care team who works together to support her, not just her diagnosis.
What were you doing before launching your business, and how did that experience shape what you do now?
    • I've worked in the small business/ startup healthcare space for quite some time. I'm so grateful for that experience as I was being unknowingly shaped to build something myself one day.
What did the early days of building your brand look like? Any pivotal moments that stand out?
    • Building Mère hasn’t been easy. I’m a first time founder, a mom of two little girls, and I’ve had to learn to trust my gut while also asking for a lot of help. There have been so many moments of doubt, financial stress, and some major learning curves. The most pivotal moment was having our first provider say YES to joining the Mère team. Without her yes, Mère wouldn't exist. Her courage to join a startup and a very non-traditional healthcare clinic is now helping to change women's lives! I'm so proud of her.
What’s been the biggest surprise about starting a business centered around motherhood?
    • I knew it would be incredibly rewarding. I've always had a heart for patients who are sitting in hard moments, but the stories we get to carry alongside women, and the support I witness our beautiful providers give to our patients every day has truly changed my life. It feels so incredible to know I get to play a small part in this company.
How do you balance being a mom and a founder—what does that actually look like behind the scenes?
    • I'll let you know when I've figured it out hahaha! Balance feels like a myth at times, but I know that the work happening now will pay off in the future. When I come home in the evenings, I try to disconnect for the hours my two daughters are awake, then I pick it back up after bedtime! I will say that my oldest always asks if she can work for Mère when she's big. That right there shows me that they will one day see the importance behind this brand, and hopefully they'll be proud.
What advice would you give to someone who’s in the thick of new motherhood and dreaming up a business?
    • It's hard, BUT you can do this! I've been told time and time again now, "do it while they're young!". As they get older and life gets busier with school demands & extracurriculars, they will need you more. Start now so that as they grow your business "baby" will grow and you can show up for both!
What’s next for you and for Mere? Any exciting projects or dreams on the horizon?
    • Yes! We just added another mental health therapist this week & we are launching a super exciting marketing campaign in early fall that we are thrilled to see come to life. We are still in the early stages, but the vision is clear and we feel so passionately that this has the power to help women feel so seen in what they are walking through. Stay tuned!
We have to ask- did you get a push present? Tell us everything.
    • I did! I have two girls and received a diamond band that I chose to stack with my engagement & wedding ring. My plan is to give these bands to my daughters on the day of their own weddings.
